• My birthday was a couple of weeks ago and I have been thinking about this project since then. I thought about what I will do before my birthday next year. I want this project to be successful and doable. These past few days I have been thinking of subjects, activities, lists, things I want to do, etc. It is clear that I don’t want a bucket list. Keeping in mind that we are still in the pandemic and most likely will be in it for the next many months, I want the project to be small, focus on things I enjoy doing, and support the idea of continuing to learn and practice my art.

As you can imagine, I found out immediately that I have far too many things I wanted to do. I wrote all of them down on paper so I can see them visually. After shuffling them around, I narrow it down to something I am comfortable with. I am in an early stage of the project and I think it’s helpful to leave some room for adjustment. More to come. So as I explore on it, these are 5 key things I want to stick with.
It’s doable
It’s small effort
It’s consistent
It’s creative and fun
It’s about learning

Drawing. This is something I “think” about a lot but I am not “doing” it. So I put drawing and painting in my sketchbook the first thing on the list. My plan is to complete one spread (2-page across) a week for 55 weeks. Doable? We will see.

Welcome to my “55 before 55” project. Follow along this journey with me if you you’d like. Are you doing something similar? What’s your current project?
